WHAT IS MYSORE?

Answer: a place in Southern India ;) (where Ashtanga yoga originated)

MYSORE IS ALSO A WAY TO PRACTICE ASHTANGA YOGA

It is a self practice session with teachers in the room assisting and helping students.  Mysore style is a form of practice based on the teachings of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois of Mysore, India.  This one-on-one approach within a group setting is the most efficient method for students to learn and practice (at their own pace) with individual attention from the teacher.

DO I HAVE TO BE AN ADVANCED STUDENT TO TAKE A MYSORE CLASS?

NO!  In fact you can be a brand new beginner who has never practiced yoga before!  All students have the opportunity to develop personally at their own pace with individual and specific attention from a teacher.
A beginner would just learn sun salutes the first class, take rest and go home.  The next class they would practice sun salute A, be taught sun salute B, take rest and go home.  The next class they would practice sun salute A&B, learn the first two standing poses take rest, and go home . . .  and on it goes!
This is an excellent way to learn this practice, you learn it slowly and incrementally which allows you to feel and connect to the more subtle aspects of the practice.  This method of learning also empowers you to do the practice anytime, anywhere.

WHAT IF I DO HAVE AN ASHTANGA YOGA PRACTICE BUT CANNOT REMEMBER THE ORDER OF POSES?

This is OK too!  I will be around to guide you and help you.  Also other students in the class will help remind you—we are all working together for a higher purpose—the support and camaraderie in Mysore classes is strong.

MYSORE CLASSES PROGRESS YOUR PRACTICE

Mysore classes are also an excellent way to progress your practice, to learn the techniques of moving and breathing synchronicity, to get individual help with learning the jumps and lightness, and to learn other series of Ashtanga yoga such as the second or third series.

Please do not be afraid to try a Mysore class!
