Be Fit Body Mind Yoga Instructors & Methods

We teach the method of Ashtanga Yoga as taught by Nancy Gilgoff. The owner, Bobbi Misiti, has studied extensively with Nancy and strives to teach just as Nancy. All of the instructors at Be Fit have been trained individually by Bobbi and have spent 6-12 months mentoring during classes to learn the correct methods.

The original method of learning Ashtanga Yoga is through direct transmission with hands on adjustments from teacher to student. Nancy Gilgoff is one of the original students of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois (founder of Ashtanga Yoga). Nancy has influenced students and teachers for over 35 years with teaching this method of Ashtanga Yoga as she learned it from her teacher, Pattabhi Jois. BeFit Body & Mind Yoga teaches Ashtanga Yoga as taught by Nancy and is part of the living tradition that continues to grow and thrive as a Yoga Community because of Nancy's dedication to sharing the practice in its purest form.
During class we focus on each student individually making the practice their own. In class your practice includes hands on alignment and adjustments helping you to understand the posture kinesthetically, deepening the posture, or gaining awareness around the blockages in our body that keep us from experiencing the release of the posture, and learning therapeutic effects of doing the practice correctly for healing.

Teachings from Nancy Gilgoff:
'This generation of Yogis is being TOLD how to do everything. This limits us having our own experience. Guruji's method is to have you do it, take the practice and have your own experience.'

'Yoga is not just asanas. It is a reflection point so you can look at your life and see if you like it, not deny it, and see what you need to do to change it.'

'Even if you can physically do the poses, it does not matter. It takes years to really understand the Yoga. Until then, sloppy Yoga.'
